Step No 1
Develop a winning attitude. W. Clement Stone said “There is very little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative”.
So, what are attitudes? Simply put, they are habits of thought. And just like habits, attitudes become ingrained in our subconscious mind and become an automatic way of thinking. Henry Ford said “think you can, think you can’t, either way you are right”.
How do we develop a winning attitude? Use the neural reconditioning techniques of affirmations or NLP. Reams have been written about these techniques, you just need to pick up any self help book and they will be explained in detail.
Another easy way is to use subliminal CD’s which help you to get that winning attitude without taking time out of your daily schedule. I am sure you all know about my subliminal products, but just as a reminder you can have a look at www.johnbroome.co.za.
Visualization processes are so powerful. Dr John F Demartini says “if you get absolutely crystal clear on exactly what you would love, and see nothing but that, it is almost impossible for you not to get it”! When you clearly picture in your mind what you want and do this repeatedly to ‘burn’ it into the subconscious mind, then that part of your brain will seek to make it so.
Step No 2
Clarify your thinking. Become crystal clear about what you want to achieve. Be detailed and specific. “I want to earn more money” is no good! To your brain earning an extra R10 is earning more money! Word it like this “I choose to have a net monthly income of R… “.
Make your objective Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time related (or deadlined), something you are Enthusiastic about and it must be Recorded or written down. (SMARTER goals)
Step No 3
Develop a plan for achieving your goal with a date for its achievement. You need to break the goal down into actionable steps, with a deadline for the attainment of each individual step. This plan must be in writing.
You have to know what you need to do and by when it has to be done. A goal without a plan serves no purpose. I have a very useful goal planning template, if you would like a copy, drop me an email.
Step No 4
Develop a sincere desire for what you want. Writing down the benefits of achieving the goal arouses your desire. Not just the physical benefits, but the emotional benefits as well. See yourself having the goal and imagine how you feel now that you have achieved the target.
This is important because the benefits of achieving the goal must outweigh the work needed to accomplish it. Otherwise there is no motivation to get going and sustain the momentum.
Step No 5
Develop confidence in your ability to achieve the objective. The way to develop your self confidence is to use affirmations and visualization or, Subliminal or Paraliminal CD’s. Confidence also builds through successfully completing your action steps. As you see yourself getting closer to the desired end result, so your confidence grows in your ability to achieve it. It is really a 2- pronged approach – you need to do the mental conditioning work as well as taking the necessary action.
Step No 6
Express gratitude. Be grateful for all the things you already have, even if they are not the greatest! Also be grateful for the things that you want to create in your life. Express gratitude as though you had already achieved that goal. Feel that gratitude! Find the thing that you are most grateful for in your life and really get into that feeling. Then use that same feeling when being grateful for what you want to create.
God (or the Universe) works in strange ways. If you are grateful for what you have, you will be given more things to be grateful for. On the converse, if you are given a gift by someone and you don’t show any gratitude, do you think that person will give you a gift again?
Step No 7
Take goal directed action. Follow through on your plan, regardless of obstacles, criticism or setbacks. You need to persevere. This brings us to the logical next step:
Step No 8
Get feedback. Are the actions you are taking getting you closer to the desired end result or taking you away from it? Keep monitoring where your actions are taking you. If they are not getting you to where you want to be, you have to change what you are doing.
Remember the old saying “carry on doing what you have always done and you will carry on getting what you’ve always got”. If you are stuck and don’t know how to proceed, find someone who has already achieved what you want. Invite him or her to breakfast and ask for assistance / advice. Most people are very amenable to assisting others in a mentorship role, when they are asked.
For business owners we could add in a Step no 9. You need to develop a Marketing Plan that gets you new prospects / clients and makes you profit. I take small business owners through Jay Abraham’s MasterMind Marketing Program, a 1 day workshop to help you get more clients who spend more money, more often! When these three things happen, exponential growth takes place in a business.
There you go. There is no rocket science to personal achievement. Just follow the process and you must eventually get there.
Remember you only fail when you quit! Develop strong enough ‘whys’, or reasons / benefits for having what you want. Then develop ‘stick-to-it-ive-ness’, persevere and you must eventually climb your mountain.
I help my clients get to where they want to be by taking them through my coaching programme “The System for Personal Success”. To get what you’ve never had, you must do what you have never done! So ask yourself this question – What sort of a person do I need to become so that I can do the things necessary to get what I want?
